These
are excerpts from the ongoing production of the St.
Joseph Civil War Documentary.
The
lead characters, Jonathan and Anna Buchman are a
young farm couple from St. Joseph caught up in the
conflict between the states. While they are
fictitious, they act as witnesses to the events
that occurred during the Civil War in St. Joseph
and Missouri.
1860- While campaigning for President Lincoln,
soon to be Secretary of State, William Seward
stops in St. Joseph to address the public at the
Patee House.
1861-
Following mob violence in St. Joseph, which
resulted in tearing down of the stars and stripes,
Jonathan makes a fateful decision to fight for his
farm and way of life and oppose the Union.
1861-
Jonathan gets ready to leave his wife Anna at home
in St. Joseph and join up with the confederate
army.
1861-
Confederate troops battle Union forces at the
Osage River near Jefferson City. Jonathan joins an
artillery unit and participates in the War.
1861-
Captain Sully sets up a Union encampment southwest
of the Patee House in St. Joseph in a police
action set off my mob violence. Local militia
Colonel Peacock accepts a flag from Captain Sully
to fly on the cupulo of the Patee House.
