STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:

The Committee will accentuate the City of St. Joseph and the surrounding Northwest Missouri area’s Civil War history lending up to and during the war, corresponding with those happenings on the national and state level.  Through community education and interpretation the Committee will examine the conflict from the perspective of Northern Loyalists, Southern Sympathizers and African-Americans.

In particular, it will focus on those local individuals, places and events involved, identified, or occurring during this climactic struggle and their relationship to this American crisis, known as the Second American Revolution.

The Civil War Commemoration is being organized by the St. Joseph Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee.
